Lucy Baptiste Portfolio
Photojournalist, Reporter, Storyteller
I move between camera and notebook to document the human experience, from street protests and stadiums to community festivals and everyday moments. My reporting and photography focus on migration, resilience and the communities that are often left out of the frame.
About Me
Lucy Baptiste is a visual journalist and reporter whose work explores migration, identity, and resilience. Rooted in her Garifuna heritage, she was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in New York City, where the vibrancy of the 1990s and her family’s journey shaped her eye for storytelling. What began as a way to document her children’s sports memories evolved into a professional path in visual journalism.

Minneapolis, where she deepened her commitment to justice and narrative, and Chicago, where she reported on and photographed immigrant communities during her internship with Borderless Magazine, continue to guide the focus of her lens. Now based in New York, Lucy has completed her M.A. in Engagement Journalism at CUNY’s Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism, while developing her first independent documentary film project. She takes pride in capturing moments that truly matter and is committed to community-centered reporting and visual storytelling.

She is the creator of Portraits of Healing, an ongoing photo essay project focused on care, resilience, and mental well-being.

From 2022 marches and youth-led actions to vigils, speeches, and memorial gatherings, these images follow how communities continue to mourn, organize, and demand accountability years after his killing.
